Now that sixteen-year-old Dru's worst fears have come true and Sergej has kidnapped her best friend Graves, she'll have to go on a suicidal rescue mission to bring him back in one piece.
That is, if she can put all of Christophe's training to good use, defeat her mother's traitor, Anna, once and for all, and manage to survive another day...

And I thought this series couldn’t get any better! Man was I wrong. This is now my new favourite. There’s more action (especially from Dru), suspense and more twists and turns than ever with the most explosive ending yet!
At the end of Jealousy, Dru was nearly killed by Anna (the other Svetocha) and subsequently found out that Sergej had captured her best friend (and kind of love interest) Graves and was planning to make him into a ‘broken’–like Ash.
In Defiance, Dru is training her little Svetocha ass off so that when the time comes, she will be able to help with the rescue of Graves from Sergej (if they can ever find where he is being kept). However, Dru has a feeling that the Order isn’t looking very hard for Graves and wants to find out why. She is also dealing with her feelings for Christophe who has made his own feelings for her pretty clear. Oh and as per usual, what with being svetocha and on the verge of blooming, there are also attempts on her life by Sergej’s nest of terrifying vampires.
However, after finding out some devastating news about Christophe that shakes her whole world she decides to go rescue Graves alone and end his suffering before he is lost forever. Will she make it in time and will they get out alive?!
Oh man this book was soooooooo good, I can’t even form coherent sentences. I literally whizzed through it devouring every word like it was a life line. I love how Dru’s friendships developed in this one. In previous books it was all pretty much Dru and Graves, or Dru and Christophe. But in Defiance we get much more relationship development between Dru and other people, such as her guard, Council members and her wolf friends who take her out running secretly in the middle of the day when the rest of the school is asleep.
There is also a major development with Ash (the broken wolf that Dru rescued) that nearly had me in tears, it was written so well and so perfectly.
And as for the ending. It kind of felt a bit like this was the first half of one book and that the second half will be the next book, Reckoning. Whilst the endings of the first three books were quite neatly tied off, Defiance kinda ended a bit differently. It felt like the characters were just having a breather before the next battle and I’m sure the final book in the series will start right up just where Defiance finished off.
I really couldn’t have asked for anything better out of this story and I was amazed by how much it captured my attention so fully and left me thinking about the storyline and characters whenever I wasn’t reading it – despite it being the fourth in the series! It never failed to shock me with all the amazing twists and turns and fantastic action and suspense. A must have for any Strange Angels fan.
