About TALISMAN OF EL

WHAT IF YOUR WHOLE LIFE WAS A LIE?

One Planet.

Two Worlds.

Population: Human … 7 billion.
Others … unknown.

When 14-year-old Charlie Blake wakes up sweating and gasping for air in the middle of the night, he knows it is happening again. This time he witnesses a brutal murder. He’s afraid to tell anyone. No one would believe him … because it was a dream. Just like the one he had four years ago – the day before his dad died.

Charlie doesn’t know why this is happening. He would give anything to have an ordinary life. The problem: he doesn’t belong in the world he knows as home.

He belongs with the others.

reviewer: Alison     April 29th, 2012     Wrap Up Video

Ali’s April Wrap Up

Hey Guys. I hope you all had a great month full of awsome books! I hit 5 again this month so I’m pleased with that. I know a lot of people manage to read loads more than that every month but I work full time and have busy weekends so to read 5 books in a month is actually really good for me! Anyway here’s my April wrap up video, including my TBR for May :)

If you also do a wrap up post please leave the link in the comments and I’ll go check it out. Or if not then just let me know in the comments what you read :)

Waiting on Wednesday (22)

reviewer: Daphne     April 25th, 2012     Mythology, Waiting on Wednesday, Young Adult

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine and is where we can talk about books we are looking forward to being released!

The Enchantress by Michael Scott
The Enchantress (The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel, Book 6) by Michael Scott
Release date: 22 May 2012 (US), 24 May 2012 (UK)

The sixth and final book in the New York Times bestselling Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel series.

The twins of prophecy have been split. Nicholas Flamel is near death. John Dee has the swords of power. And Danu Talis has yet to fall. The future of the human race lies in the balance – how will the legend end?

After the incredible cliffhanger that was at the end of the fifth book The Warlock, I absolutely cannot wait for this finale. I like to think of the series as a more diverse (and slightly more grown-up) Percy Jackson. It blends everything I enjoy in a YA adventure book and then sprinkles in more awesome:

  • Prophecy? Check!
  • Ancient Mythology? From almost every corner of the world, in fact, check!
  • History? Where else can you find the characters William Shakespeare, Joan of Arc and Billy the Kid in one book? Check!
  • Mysteries? So much left to find out in the final book, check!
  • Suspense? Cliffhangers galore. Check!
  • Action? Well, with the timeline of the series being a week and there being a jam-packed 6 books, it’s another resounding Check!

For all those new to the series, there is still a month left to devour the first 5 books (and you don’t have the agonising year-long wait either)! For more information, see the Official Series Website, the Official Author Website and for any burning questions the author Michael Scott is incredible to his fans and posts regularly on the Official Fan Forums.

Teaser Tuesday (12)

reviewer: Daphne     April 24th, 2012     Dystopian, Paranormal, Teaser Tuesday

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

  1. Grab your current read
  2. Open to a random page
  3. Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  4. Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

My teaser this week is:

The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa

Now at least I had a quick escape if the sun penetrated my flimsy tent. Or if something unforseen happened and I needed to get away quickly. Always leave yourself an out; that was the first rule of the Fringe.

The Immortal Rules (Blood of Eden, Book 1)
by Julie Kagawa

I absolutely tore my way through this book and although I finished it a couple of days ago, I couldn’t help posting a little teaser. This was one of my featured Waiting on Wednesdays and it completele lived up to my expectations and excitement. I’m so grateful to HarlequinTEEN for providing an advanced copy through NetGalley. Allie is a great heroine, the story was engaging and action-packed and the book nicely walked the line between dystopia and paranormal. I don’t want to give too much away, as my full review will come very soon!

Lover Awakened by J R Ward

Lover Eternal by J R Ward

Author: J R Ward
Series: Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book 3
Publisher: Piatkus books
Published: 2010
434 pages

In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there’s a deadly turf war raging between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret bound of brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Possessed by a deadly beast Rhage is the most dangerous of the Black Dagger Brotherhood.

A former blood slave, the vampire Zsadist still bears the scars from a past filled with suffering and humiliation. Renowned for his unquenchable fury and sinister deeds, he is a savage feared by humans and vampires alike. Anger is his only companion, and terror is his only passion—until he rescues a beautiful aristocrat from the evil Lessening Society.

Bella is instantly entranced by the seething power Zsadist possesses. But even as their desire for one another begins to overtake them both, Zsadist’s thirst for vengeance against Bella’s tormentors drives him to the brink of madness. Now, Bella must help her lover overcome the wounds of his tortured past, and find a future with her…

WARNING – MINOR SPOILERS FROM BOOK 2

Oh Zsadist… **sigh** I don’t think I’m going to be able to do this book (or Zsadist) justice in this review but I’m going to try!

Firstly, this one is now my new favourite BDB book. Everything that was good about the first two is even more so in Lover Awakened. The action, the romance, the friendships and journies these characters go on. It all made for such an epic story.

What I love the most about this one is the huge journey that Zsadist goes on throughout the book. He has to deal with issues that he has had for over 100 years, which began when he was kidnapped and used as a blood slave by a wealthy aristercrat. Ever since his brother Phury rescued him he has been unable to properly interact with others, unable to love, unable to even touch other people. That is until he meets Bella. She (unlike everyone else) isn’t scared of him and wants to bring him out of his shell. But at the end of book 2 she was kidnapped by a lesser who was completely mad and thought she was his dead wife. Once Zsadist manages to rescue her they begin a wonderful journey towards both his and her recovery and I loved every minute of it. It was written beautifully and so perfect.

As with the other BDB books there are many sub plots being told at the same time as the main storyline and again I loved this. From the bromance of Butch and Vischious to the story of John who is training to become a warrior, and new characters such as Bella’s brother… they all contributed in making this book a very well rounded story.

I just can’t get enough of the brothers at the minute and when I finished this I literally started reading the next one straight away. They are THAT addictive. So, if you havent started this series yet and are a fan of adult paranormal romance then I urge you to give these a try. They are compelling, addictive, gritty, romantic, funny and just all around awesome!

5 wings
