Starting over sucks.
When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I'd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring.... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.
And then he opened his mouth.
Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something...unexpected happens.
The hot alien living next door marks me.
You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon's touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.
If I don't kill him first, that is.
I had been told by countless people that this book was amazing. Yet for some reason I put off reading it. Maybe I thought it couldn’t live up to the hype. Or that it would be just another YA paranormal book among thousands. Well in any case I’m now kicking myself for not reading it sooner. Obsidian is JUST as amazing as I was told it would be!
I loved the characters, the storyline, the world building, the drama and suspense, the action and the romance (albeit a very rocky romance). You name it, this book’s got it!
What I really enjoyed about this book is that it has that rare ability to keep you glued to it until you have finished every word. I literally could not put this book down for love nor money. I became obsessed with it. And this is something that hasn’t happened to me with a book for a long time. I read this book in two days and think I only stopped to eat and sleep! It was a pure joy to read.
So why was I obsessed with it? Everything! Every aspect is outstanding. The storyline is intriguing and different and had me wondering what on earth was going off with these aliens. The characters (human and alien both) are brilliantly written realistic individuals with unique personalities. Our main character Kat acted exactly the way a 17 year-old girl SHOULD act. And this was so refreshing to find in a YA book these days. And then there’s Daemon, our resident hot alien. Hot isn’t even the word to describe this guy. I sometimes thought I could feel the heat rising off the pages when he was around! But aside from that he’s also an ass! Yes an actual pain in the backside, rude, frustrating, infuriating specimen of a man…but boy did that make him even more interesting!
Mix together these awesome characters, killer storyline and fantastic action sequences, with a few seriously hot alien moments and even some regular high school problems and what you get is pure genius storytelling.
This book is the easiest 5 stars I’ve given out in a long time and is well worth every one of those stars. Bring on book two!
