I've seen him on the news. Followed the stories about what happened in Ohio. John Smith, out there, on the run. To the world, he's a mystery. But to me . . . he's one of us.
Nine of us came here, but sometimes I wonder if time has changed us—if we all still believe in our mission. How can I know? There are six of us left. We're hiding, blending in, avoiding contact with one another . . . but our Legacies are developing, and soon we'll be equipped to fight. Is John Number Four, and is his appearance the sign I've been waiting for? And what about Number Five and Six? Could one of them be the raven-haired girl with the stormy eyes from my dreams? The girl with powers that are beyond anything I could ever imagine? The girl who may be strong enough to bring the six of us together?
They caught Number One in Malaysia.
Number Two in England.
And Number Three in Kenya.
They tried to catch Number Four in Ohio—and failed.
I am Number Seven. One of six still alive.
And I'm ready to fight.
Oh my goodness… where to begin with this review! Ok, firstly I loved this book. I thought it was much better than I am Number Four. A massive improvement!
This is mainly because of the manner in which this one is told. In this installment we are being told two stories. First is the continuing story of Four, Six and Sam who are on the run from both the Mogadorians and the police. And secondly is the story of another of the Garde, Seven, living in a nunnery in rural Spain where her and her Cepan have been hiding for about ten years.
I LOVED this new way of telling this story. It improved my reading experience 100%! Both storylines were completely different and of course were about two completely different sets of characters. But both were ultimately after the same thing.. finding the other.
Seven has been following Four’s progress by way of the internet and news websites and just wants to get out of the nunnery to go find him but her Cepan Adalina has lost faith in what they were sent to Earth to do and has stopped helping her. I thoroughly enjoyed Seven’s chapters. She’s a brilliant character and has a lot of guts!
Meanwhile Four is struggling to deal with his conflicting feelings of his love for Sarah and his crush on Six. Four, Six and Sam run into a few memorable scrapes with both the police AND the Mogadorians and these made for some brilliant action packed chapters that had me on the edge of my seat.
The ending wound both storylines togehter into two very epic battle sequences that I think were some of the best chapters of the book and had me reading furiously into the night. I loved it. There really isn’t much I can complain about in this book. I have taken off half a star for a couple of confusing aspects to the storyline but I’m confident this will all become clear in future books.
This book is science fiction and action/adventure at its best and if you were a little sketchy about the first book I highly recommend you give Power of Six a chance… I thoroughly enjoyed this story and look forward to the next!
