I’m extremely honoured to be part of the blog tour for the final book in Leigh Bardugo’s epic Grisha series! I loved both Shadow and Bone and Siege and Storm so much and I can’t believe this amazing series will be over soon! That said, I can’t wait for more Alina, Darkling, Mal and especially more Sturmhond!
As part of the blog tour, Indigo are generously giving away a set of all three books in the Grisha trilogy and an amazing, one of a kind poster of the gorgeous image below by artist Irene Koh. To find out how to enter, read on!
Alina the Saint
With Leigh Bardugo’s Thoughts
It’s hard for me to choose my favorite panel of the triptych, but I think this may be it. For me, the way Alina is framed and the stillness in her pose evoke religious iconography. But there’s also this sense of menace in the firebirds and flames that bracket her—they’re not quite as static as the previous two amplifiers in their panels.
If you notice, there’s also hardly any black in her kefta in this panel and the blue is similarly pared back. Alina is no longer under the Darkling’s sway or even a summoner of the Second Army. She is garbed in gold and has become something else entirely. This is Sankta Alina. She’s still human, but you can see the way that she has been overtaken by the symbolic. As for the white hair, I was inspired to write that change in Alina’s appearance by the cover art created by the Balbusso twins for “The Witch of Duva,” so I love seeing it brought to life here. – Leigh Bardugo
About Ruin and Rising
Release: 17 June 2014
SHADOW AND BONE. SIEGE AND STORM. Now Alina’s story reaches its incredible conclusion in RUIN AND RISING.
The capital has fallen. The Darkling rules Ravka from his shadow throne. Alina will have to forge new alliances and put aside old rivalries as she and Mal race to find the last of Morozova’s amplifiers. But as Alina begins to unravel the Darkling’s secrets, she reveals a past that will forever alter her understanding of the bond they share and the power she wields. The firebird is the one thing that stands between Ravka and destruction – but claiming it could cost Alina the very future she is fighting for.
Glorious. Epic. Irresistible. Romance.
