I’m so pleased to welcome Victoria Aveyard to the blog today, debut author to celebrate the UK paperback release of the bestselling book, Red Queen! This book has been on my TBR pile ever since that gorgeous cover was revealed so I’m happy that they have used the same approach for the paperback! That crown and blood is just so striking.
With author Victoria Aveyard
What is the first book you ever read/remember reading?
Besides, you know, Dr. Seuss. I remember reading the children version of White Fang, and Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine. The latter really hit for me, and hooked me on reading, not to mention genre fiction.
What is the first book your wrote (can be published or unpublished)?
RED QUEEN is both the first book I ever finished writing and the first book I published.
What is the first book you would save if your house was burning?
I have this beautiful copy of The Lord of the Rings illustrated by Alan Lee. When I was thirteen I saved up all my birthday money to buy it, and still have it on my shelf. And if I managed to save two books, I would save my signed copy of A Dance of Dragons by George RR Martin. I spent my 21st birthday waiting in line to get that one signed.
About Red Queen
A world divided by blood – red or silver.
The Reds are commoners, ruled by a Silver elite in possession of god-like superpowers. And to Mare Barrow, a seventeen-year-old Red girl from the poverty-stricken Stilts, it seems like nothing will ever change.
That is, until she finds herself working in the Silver Palace.
Here, surrounded by the people she hates the most, Mare discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy the balance of power. Fearful of Mare’s potential, the Silvers hide her in plain view, declaring her a long-lost Silver princess, now engaged to a Silver prince. Despite knowing that one misstep would mean her death, Mare works silently to help the Red Guard, a militant resistance group, and bring down the Silver regime. But this is a world of betrayal and lies, and Mare has entered a dangerous dance – Reds against Silvers, prince against prince, and Mare against her own heart . . .
