What is the first book you ever read/remember reading?
To be honest, the first book I really, truly remember reading was this old clothbound novella edition of Cinderella that my mom had. I read it in one day (which I was quite proud of at the time, because I wasn’t the fastest reader and I was like eight), and I got absolutely obsessed with it. I literally sat down that day and started writing my own fairytale, which I’m sure was terrible in many ways, and then I reread the book in one sitting a few days later.
What is the first book you wrote (either published or unpublished)?
The first book I wrote was about a girl who found out that she could become a mermaid, because mermaids are the coolest thing ever. The book wasn’t great, but it was the first almost book-length project that I finished, so I was very proud of it. I’ve thought about rereading it, but I’m not sure I have the resolve to do so.
What is the first book you will pack on your upcoming holiday?
I’m definitely planning on packing my new hardcover of The Sin-Eater’s Daughter, because I’ll be doing an event with Melinda Salisbury in London, and I’ll have a quick fangirl moment and ask her to sign it.
About A Shiver of Snow and Sky
Red, red the lights glow red,
Beware the dangers up ahead…
On the frozen island of Skane, the sky speaks.
Beautiful lights appear on clear nights, and their colours have meaning: Green means all is well, and the Goddess is happy. Blue means a snow storm is on the way.
And then there’s red. Red is rare. A warning.
Seventeen years ago, the sky turned red just as Ósa was born, unleashing a plague that claimed the lives of hundreds of villagers, including her own mother. This time, when the night sky once again bleeds crimson, she must discover what it means before so many lives are lost again.
