I’m thrilled to be able to share the UK cover for the final book in Tera Lynn Childs’ Medusa Girls series, Sweet Legacy. I loved the first book, Sweet Venom and I’m waiting (im)patiently for the sequel Sweet Shadows, which should be arriving any day now! Many thanks to Templar Publishing for letting me be a part of this!

About SWEET LEGACY
Publication Date: September 2013 (UK)
Publisher: Templar Publishing

Descendants of Medusa do battle with beasties in modern-day San Francisco in this action-packed trilogy.

The concluding book in this kick-ass trilogy. Teenage descendants of Medusa, triplets Gretchen, Grace and Greer, face their toughest test yet as the mythological and the modern collide in a fast-paced urban fantasy adventure.

And now the cover:

Sweet Legacy by Tera Lynn Childs

The final cover fits so nicely with the others in the series and I love the purple tone. It’s got a tough but feminine vibe to it. The font is great and I love the bright lights of San Francisco, which gives the mythology-themed book an urban feel.

What do you all think of the cover?

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine, where we feature a book we are looking forward to being released!

Sweet Shadows by Tera Lynn Childs
Sweet Shadows (Medusa Girls #2) by Tera Lynn Childs
1 March 2013

Grace, Gretchen and Greer – three teenage descendants of Medusa who must unite and embrace their fates in a unique paranormal world where monsters lurk in plain sight. The sisters are now reunited, but their battle against the vile beasties of the abyss rages on. And as if training to become fully-fledged huntresses weren’t enough, the boys in their lives are causing them problems. Is Nick all he seems? And where’s Thane? He’s gone missing, and Grace is sure he’s hiding something from her. As the girls discover more about their heritage, they find themselves in greater danger than ever. Can they face up to the sacrifices they must make in order to fulfill their destiny?

I got the ARC for the first book, Sweet Venom, a while back and I’m not really sure why I didn’t pick it up sooner. I was so pleased when Viv from Serendipity Reviews brought it to my attention at the recent Hot Key Books & Templar Publishing blogger brunch. It had all the things I enjoy in a YA book–engaging characters, adventure and a bit of mythology sprinkled in for good measure.

Now after the cliffhanger at the end of the last book (YOU KILL ME TERA), I cannot wait to get my hands on this next book! I’m especially eager to find out more about the mysterious boys in the girls’ lives and what the prophecy actually means for them.

So, are you guys excited about this book?

Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan
Mark of Athena (Heroes of Olympus #3) by Rick Riordan
Release date: 2 October 2012

Annabeth is terrified. Just when she’s about to be reunited with Percy—after six months of being apart, thanks to Hera—it looks like Camp Jupiter is preparing for war. As Annabeth and her friends Jason, Piper, and Leo fly in on the Argo II, she can’t blame the Roman demigods for thinking the ship is a Greek weapon. With its steaming bronze dragon masthead, Leo’s fantastical creation doesn’t appear friendly. Annabeth hopes that the sight of their praetor Jason on deck will reassure the Romans that the visitors from Camp Half-Blood are coming in peace.

And that’s only one of her worries. In her pocket Annabeth carries a gift from her mother that came with an unnerving demand: Follow the Mark of Athena. Avenge me. Annabeth already feels weighed down by the prophecy that will send seven demigods on a quest to find—and close— the Doors of Death. What more does Athena want from her?

Annabeth’s biggest fear, though, is that Percy might have changed. What if he’s now attached to Roman ways? Does he still need his old friends? As the daughter of the goddess of war and wisdom, Annabeth knows she was born to be a leader, but never again does she want to be without Seaweed Brain by her side.

Narrated by four different demigods, The Mark of Athena is an unforgettable journey across land and sea to Rome, where important discoveries, surprising sacrifices, and unspeakable horrors await. Climb aboard the Argo II, if you dare. . .

Every year, around my birthday, I get a pleasant treat in the form of Rick Riordan’s next great story. I love each book this man writes, and they just get better and better. In this series, a spin-off/continuation of the original Percy Jackson five, we get a new camp, a new set of demigods and a heck of a lot more adventure. Annabeth finally takes center stage in this one, and they go to Rome! Awesomesauce. Seriously can’t wait!

Teaser Tuesday (27)

reviewer: Daphne     September 11th, 2012     Mythology, Paranormal, Teaser Tuesday, Young Adult

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

  1. Grab your current read
  2. Open to a random page
  3. Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page, being careful not to INCLUDE SPOILERS!
  4. Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

My teaser this week is:

The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

He was so real. When it finally happened, when she finally saw him, it didn’t feel like magic at all. It felt like looking into the grave and seeing it look back at her.

“Is that all?” she whispered.

Gansey closed his eyes. “That’s all there is.”

The Raven Boys
by Maggie Stiefvater

It’s getting tougher and tougher to pick just one teaser out of my current reads lately, because I’m on a good run, but I thought this little snippet was an appropriate taste of this fantastic book. It shows off the beautiful writing and also sets the haunting mood wonderfully. Gansey and Blue are two characters that interweave throughout the novel and this highlights their first meeting…or does it? So much love for this book already, just one more week to go!

The Raven Boys by Maggie Steifvater
The Raven Boys (Raven Cycle #1) by Maggie Stiefvater
Release date: 18 September (US/Can) and 19 September 2012 (UK)

“There are only two reasons a non-seer would see a spirit on St. Mark’s Eve,” Neeve said. “Either you’re his true love . . . or you killed him.”

It is freezing in the churchyard, even before the dead arrive.

Every year, Blue Sargent stands next to her clairvoyant mother as the soon-to-be dead walk past. Blue herself never sees them—not until this year, when a boy emerges from the dark and speaks directly to her.

His name is Gansey, and Blue soon discovers that he is a rich student at Aglionby, the local private school. Blue has a policy of staying away from Aglionby boys. Known as Raven Boys, they can only mean trouble.

But Blue is drawn to Gansey, in a way she can’t entirely explain. He has it all—family money, good looks, devoted friends—but he’s looking for much more than that. He is on a quest that has encompassed three other Raven Boys: Adam, the scholarship student who resents all the privilege around him; Ronan, the fierce soul who ranges from anger to despair; and Noah, the taciturn watcher of the four, who notices many things but says very little.

For as long as she can remember, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true love to die. She never thought this would be a problem. But now, as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she’s not so sure anymore.

I was fortunate enough to receive an advanced copy of The Raven Boys from the publisher for review and I feel truly grateful because it’s fantastic so far. I’ve read most of Maggie Stiefvater’s books and each one is better than the last, this being no exception. A misfit group’s search for a legendary king in a quaint little town in Virginia, the book has tickled both my mythology and mystery bones. Honestly, don’t waste any time pre-ordering this book now and get your affairs in order over the next couple of weeks because once you start you won’t be able to put it down!
